Press release: Food security and the need to build shared wealth for posterity in Nigeria

The global demand for food security and the need to build shared wealth for posterity is one that has necessitated critical stakeholders coming together to birth the Association of Food & Agro Processors in Nigeria. The Association is about everyone in the food processing value chain, from the farm to the dinner table. The micro scale tomato farmers in Jos and the big business fish factories in the Port Harcourt are all integral to this Association. New entrants in the business of food and Agro processing as well as veteran industrialists are home with us.

Already, the momentum is rising across the country. Professionals and business people are joining in droves. Loads of interesting stuff are happening. And happening fast, too.

On Saturday 15th August 2020, the newly formed Association threw its doors open to the public for the very first time with a virtual forum tagged Food Processing in Nigeria.

Chief Durodola Kuteyi, a veteren food processing entrepreneur and member of the Board of Trustees, who chaired the forum, basically used the occasion to highlight the primary motivation behind the Association’s formation.

He made it clear that whilst a lot of attention has been given to the farming sector over the years, very much has not been achieved in the area of food security because food processing is yet to receive the needed attention.

This, Chief Kuteyi said, was why it became necessary for food processors, agropreneurs, knowledge experts and indeed every stakeholder in the food processing sector to come together to proffer solutions to the many challenges confronting them.

As part of the forum, there was a brief Q&A session during which attendees’ enquiries were duly addressed.

The next outing of the Association is its first Greet & Meet session, which is strictly for registered members, comes up on Saturday 22nd August 2020 by 7pm.
Interested food industry players are encouraged to be a part of this historic moment by registering @bit.ly/afapregistration.
